What the video downloader actually does

How to download a video

Honest limitations

• Private and paywalled content is out of reach. If a video is set to private, restricted to followers, or behind a login or paywall, the downloader can't see it — and neither can we help you bypass that.
• Available quality depends on the source. You can only download the resolutions the platform actually published. If a creator only uploaded 720p, 4K won't magically appear.
• Platforms change constantly. Sites tweak how their videos are served, so a link that worked last month may occasionally need a retry, and some very new formats can lag behind.
• Long videos take longer. A multi-hour 4K file is a large download; on a slow connection it can take a while and use meaningful bandwidth.

Troubleshooting

• "Nothing happens when I paste." Make sure you copied the full link to a single video, not a channel, profile or search page. Remove any extra text before or after the URL.
• The video won't load. Check that the post is public. Private, deleted or region-locked videos can't be fetched. Try opening the link in a normal browser tab to confirm it plays.
• My quality isn't listed. Only the resolutions the platform published show up. If you don't see 1080p or 4K, that version may not exist — or you may need to sign in to unlock the higher tiers.
• The download stalled. Large files are sensitive to connection drops. Reconnect and try again, or pick a smaller resolution to get a reliable file faster.

Practical tips

• Download the highest quality you have rights to if you plan to edit — you can always shrink a file later, but you can't add detail back.
• Grabbing something for a phone or a quick share? A smaller resolution downloads faster and looks fine on small screens.
• Only need the sound? Skip the video and export an MP3 to save time and space.
• Keep a note of where each clip came from and who owns it — future-you will thank present-you when it's time to credit or license.

How it compares to other approaches

Desktop apps and browser extensions can download video too, but they mean installing software, granting permissions and keeping it updated — and extensions in particular get removed from stores often.
